FAQ
Where can I find the VIN number on a Volkswagen?
Please make sure your Volkswagen is made by a US manufacturer.
Location A appears on the front part of the dashboard on the driver's side of the Volkswagen, at the base of the windshield. A highly recommended way to find your VIN is to look through the windshield from outside the car.
Location B should be on the driver's door post. Open the door first, and you will find the VIN near the area where the door latches to the Volkswagen.
Location C is under the hood. A gasoline-powered Volkswagen usually has the code stamped on the front of the engine block. For older cars, the VIN can also be located at the front end of the frame.
Location D can be found on your Volkswagen's title, car registration, or insurance documents.
You should be able to find a car's VIN at the locations above.
What is a VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number)?
VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number, a unique code with a 17-character string of letters and numbers. It comes without spacing and excludes characters that could potentially be confused with numbers like Q/q, I/i, and O/o. Every single Volkswagen born in the United States should be given a distinctive VIN code, which contains specific information about your Volkswagen such as the year, model, engine type, country and factory of manufacture; and serial number. However, the modern format of Volkswagen VINs was not standardized until 1981, when the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) established the current 17-digit VIN. Although many automakers started using VINs in the middle of the 20th century, our free Volkswagen VIN decoder recognizes those vehicles built after the 1980s.
A Volkswagen VIN decoder enables you to recognize any Volkswagen vehicle. By design, it can provide every Volkswagen owner with a wealth of useful information, including precise characteristics and the history of the vehicle.
